- Angel Stained Glass Suncatcher
Angel Stained Glass Suncatcher
Artist:Out of Hand! Jewelry
This handmade suncatcher is in the shape of an Angel. Made by Out of Hand! in Shrewsbury, MA, this beautiful piece measures approximately 6 1/2" long and 3 1/2" at its widest. It hangs from 3" of clear fishing line. This would be gorgeous hanging in your window at home or would make a wonderful gift.
Stained glass suncatchers, more correctly colored glass suncatchers, are made by cutting multiple pieces of colored glass and assembling them into a pattern. Each piece is cut from a larger sheet of glass with a glass cutter using a pattern. After all pieces are cut, they must be ground around the edge to remove sharp edges and to ensure a proper fit on the pattern. A piece of thin sticky-backed copper foil, usually about one-quarter inch wide, is then crimped around the edge of each piece. After all of the pieces have been prepared, they are assembled onto the pattern and soldered together using flux and solder on both front and back. A final bead of solder is applied to all seams on the front to give a more finished look. Finally, a small hook is attached to allow it to be hung using a small length of fish wire.
